UPDATE: Franklin Closure Direction Switch Begins Nov. 5

UPDATE: Franklin Avenue Construction Detour Changes – Westbound Closes and Eastbound Opens Wednesday, Nov. 5

The Franklin Avenue Improvements Project detour direction switch will now take place on Wednesday, Nov. 5 due to a construction delay.

The Franklin Avenue construction project, from NE Fourth Street to NE Eighth Street, is reaching a new milestone. Work on the south side is nearly complete, and the road closure and detour are scheduled to switch directions—westbound will close to traffic, and eastbound will open. This change will begin on Nov. 5 and continue through early December to complete the next phase of construction. The full project is ahead of schedule and, weather permitting, is expected to be completed in early December.

On Sept. 24, City Council selected a truss-type bridge style for the Hawthorne Crossing. This option is lower in construction and maintenance costs compared to the single tower cable stay design, and will be easier to construct. A mountain theme will be integrated to ensure the bridge is iconic and unique to Bend.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will lead and manage the full design and construction of the bridge. If you are interested in receiving email project updates for Hawthorne Crossing to follow the progress of the bridge, we encourage you to sign up for ODOT’s email list at https://direc.to/nvj6
