Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – February 24, 2023
SAFETY FIRST
With the recent weather, the City of Bend wants to take the time to remind businesses and residents of Bend City Code (3.30.020). Property owners must maintain sidewalks adjacent to their property in good repair and unobstructed. Adjacent property owners are also required to remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours after the snowfall has stopped and six hours for commercial properties, per City of Bend Code 5.35.020 (Snow and Ice). If you have a fire hydrant in front of your property, it is your responsibility to remove snow accumulation from around the hydrant.
Here is a website explaining the property owner’s responsibility: https://www.bendoregon.gov/departments/streets/street-operations/sidewalk-program-and-compliance
NOTE: It is recommended not to use rock salt or ice melt on the new concrete stairs and sidewalks. Instead, sand or cinders can be used along with prompt shoveling to prevent icy conditions.
