Awbrey Butte Waterline Project Update – February 9, 2023

The Awbrey Butte Waterline Improvement Project will improve Bend’s ability to deliver water across the City and increase the system’s resiliency and reliability by installing approximately 4.25 miles of pipeline.

Project Update – February 2023

As part of the City of Bend’s design work for the Awbrey Butte Waterline Improvement Project, crews will continue exploratory work to find existing underground utility lines. Excavation work (known as potholing) near Awbrey Reservoir will proceed over the next week with limited traffic disruptions. Further potholing for Phase 2 subprojects will occur later in the year, with separate announcements to follow.

Water infiltration tests will occur near the Awbrey Reservoir in the coming weeks. Residents should anticipate seeing excavation equipment, trucks, and personnel entering and exiting the Reservoir property, located near the top of 9th Street.

Surface improvements along the Portland Avenue corridor are being evaluated and are in the planning phase right now. The design of potential improvements along the corridor may start in March. The City plans to hold an in-person meeting to discuss the improvements with the public in the next 3-5 months.

The City is committed to keeping neighbors informed throughout the project through the project website, public informational meetings, mailings, emails, and door hangers. In advance of construction activities in your neighborhood, residents will receive a more detailed notification with specific information regarding construction impacts.
