Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – September 1, 2022

SAFETY FIRST
Due to the weather forecast in Central Oregon, the City of Bend has approved early work hours on the Newport Corridor Improvement project; this notice is subject to be extended if high temperatures persist.

Temporary Work Hours: 6:00 AM to 6:00PM
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR SEPTEMBER 1 – SEPTEMBER 8

Above: Newport Avenue (facing east), curbs & concrete aprons complete the Dogbone Roundabout that spans from 11th Street to 12th Street. The dogbone will improve safety for pedestrians crossing Newport Avenue and improves traffic spacing for bicycles and vehicles entering or exiting Newport Avenue.
Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 2C (12th Street & Newport Avenue Intersection)
- Concrete is poured for the sidewalks and driveway aprons.
- Concrete cure time continues.
- Roadways are graded in preparation for paving.
- Installation of signs, illumination, and landscaping begins.
Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 3 (12th Street to 14th Street)
- Stormwater planter walls are formed, and concrete is poured.
- Removal of the existing sewer main and installation of the stormwater main is completed.
- Water service lines are connected to properties, and the main is tied into the existing water main at 14th Street.

Traffic Closures and Changes
- Newport Avenue, west of 11th Street to 14th Street, is closed.
- 12th Street, north and south of Newport Avenue, will be closed.
- Northbound leg of the 14th Street roundabout.
Access to all businesses along Newport Avenue will be open through construction.
GENERAL PROJECT NOTES
- Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained.
- Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
- Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
- The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
- There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

- EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
- Please help us spread the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
