Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – August 12, 2022

SAFETY FIRST

On Saturday, August 13, there will be construction during typical work hours; normal construction activities will occur.

In the upcoming weeks, construction hours will be extended beyond the typical 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM shift to accommodate private utility installation into the new joint utility trench at Newport Avenue & 12th Street; anticipated work taking place outside of normal hours will be communicated through weekly email updates.

In coordination with the project, Private Utility companies will be performing night work from 7:00 PM to 6:30 PM on various days this coming week. During the night work, you may hear equipment, trucks with reverse alarms, and crew members performing this work. This night work is being allowed to reduce the impact of these major utility outages for customers. Thank you for your patience as we continue with this significant City project.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR AUGUST 11 – AUGUST 18

Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – 9th Street Roundabout

  • Re-Installation of Bueno, the sculpture within the 9th Street Roundabout, is expected to be installed. 
  • Restrictions for large trucks will be in place during installation. However, regular traffic impacts should be minimal.

Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 2C (12th Street & Newport Avenue Intersection)

  • Night work hours for franchise utility relocation near 12th Street. 
  • Connection of water service lines to the new watermain.
  • Replacement of the Storm mainline and structures continues.
  • Preparation of the site for installation of concrete curbs and structures.

Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 3 (12th Street to 14th Street)

  • Excavation of the stormwater planters begins.

Traffic Closures and Changes

  • Newport Avenue, west of 11th Street to 14th Street, is closed.
  • 12th Street, north and south of Newport Avenue, will be closed.
  • Northbound leg of the 14th Street roundabout.
  •  A map depicting the road closure on Newport Ave., 14th St., and 12th St, business access on the alley between 11th St. & 12th St., 11th St., and NW Milwaukee Ave., and the detour on 9th St. and Portland Ave.

Access to all businesses along Newport Avenue will be open through construction. 

GENERAL PROJECT NOTES

  • Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained.
  • Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
  • Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
  • The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
  • There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

  • EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
  • Please help us spread the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
