Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – September 30, 2021
The 9th Street roundabout opens for public use TONIGHT, Thursday, September 30, at 6:00 PM
SAFETY FIRST
Final landscaping between the roadway and sidewalks will be ongoing. Please be aware of these activities.
As with all major road changes, approach the roundabout with additional awareness as drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians get familiar with the newly reconstructed roundabout.
CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION KIOSK
The final informational kiosk for this year will be at the Newport Avenue Market, October 5. Stop by between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM and meet with our team to answer any questions regarding this project.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

SCHEDULED CONSTRUCTION
Nashville/Newport Corridor Improvements – Segment 1
Week of September 30 – October 7
- Traffic control is removed.
- Segment 1 is opened to the public.
- Landscaping and cleanup continues.
- 9th Street bicycle lane closure on the north leg of the roundabout will remain closed.
Newport Corridor Improvements – Segment 5 (Juniper Street to College Way)
Week of September 30 – October 7
- The sewer bypass is connected to the existing system.
- Removal of the existing sewer system begins.
DETOURS IN EFFECT
Traffic Closures and Changes
- The intersection at NW Juniper Street and Newport Avenue is closed.
- The intersection at NW Knoxville Boulevard and Newport Avenue is closed.
- One-way local access only on Newport Avenue from NW Juniper Street to College Way.
All businesses along Newport Avenue will be open through construction.
GENERAL PROJECT NOTES
- Access to all businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained.
- Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
- Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
- The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
- There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.
PROJECT COMMUNICATIONS
- EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
- Please help us in spreading the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
- Share the project website (provided below), where others can also sign up for updates using the ‘PROJECT UPDATES’ button.
