Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – August 12, 2021

SAFETY FIRST

Maintain safe speeds through local neighborhoods. Kids are still out of school, work at home is still commonplace, and these streets can be narrow. Please continue to observe speed limits, follow detours, and allow more time to reach your destination. 

Crews are working hard to finish the paving on NW Nashville Ave, but the asphalt is laid at temperatures in excess of 150° F. Like concrete, it requires time to properly set for optimal lifespan and quality. Please avoid using any freshly paved surfaces until traffic control devices are removed.

The concrete contractor will be working typical workday hours on Saturday, August 14. 

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION KIOSK

The City’s informational kiosk will be open in front of Newport Market on Tuesday, August 17, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. You are welcome to stop by and meet with our team to answer any questions regarding this project. 

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Construction is dependent on weather, COVID protocols, and other factors.

Segment 1

  • NW Nashville Ave. is in its homestretch; new sidewalks and ADA ramps will be formed and poured over the upcoming weeks.
  • The NW 9th St. and NW Newport Ave. roundabout is scheduled to be paved in early September and will open soon after.

NW Nashville/NW Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 1

Week of August 16 – August 20

  • Sidewalks and ADA ramps along NW Nashville Ave. continue to be constructed.
  • Landscaping continues to be planted along Nashville Ave.
  • Crews are constructing crosswalks at NW Harmon Blvd. and NW Nashville Ave.
  • Stormwater planters along the NW 9th Street roundabout are being built.

Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 5 (NW Juniper St to NW College Way) 

Week of August 16 – August 20

  • Cascade Natural Gas will continue relocating their new gas main. 

DETOURS IN EFFECT

Traffic Closures and Changes

  • NW Nashville Ave. from NW Newport Ave. to Pageant Park is closed.
  • NW Newport Ave. from NW 7th street to NW 10th street is closed.
  • Intersection at NW Juniper St and NW Newport Ave. will be closed.
  • Intersection at NW Knoxville Blvd and NW Newport Ave. will be closed.
  • One-way local access only on NW Newport Ave from NW Juniper St. to NW College Way.

All businesses along Newport Ave. will be open through construction. Business access signs will be placed on the following routes:

  • NW Portland Ave.
  • NW 14th St.
  • NW Newport Ave.

GENERAL PROJECT NOTES

  • Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained. New ‘business open’ signage continues to be installed.
  • Businesses between NW 9th St. and NW 11th St. can be accessed using the rear alley and rear parking areas.
  • Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
  • Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
  • The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
  • There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

  • EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
  • Please help us in spreading the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
  • Share the project website (provided below), where others can also sign up for updates using the ‘PROJECT UPDATES’ button.
