Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – July 30, 2021
SAFETY FIRST
Traffic control will be established along Newport Avenue from College Way to 6th Street in coordination with construction of segments 1 and 5. Please review the detour map below for the upcoming changes and allow additional time for your drive in this area.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION KIOSK
The City’s informational kiosk will be open on Tuesday, August 3, from 12:00 PM-1:30 PM. You are invited to stop by and meet with our team to answer any questions regarding this project.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Segment 1
- Nashville Avenue is in its homestretch; new sidewalks and ADA ramps will be formed and poured over the upcoming weeks, and asphalt is planned to be laid at the beginning of August.
- The 9th Street and Newport Avenue roundabout is scheduled to be paved at the end of August and is scheduled to open in early September.
Segment 5
- After planning and coordinating with Cascade Natural Gas Company, the construction on Newport Avenue, between Juniper Street and College Way, is starting August 2.
Segment 5 Proposed Design Exhibit
Segment 5 construction includes replacement of Sewer, Water, and stormwater systems. In addition to the new stormwater planters, new sidewalks, ADA ramps, and walk buffers will be built on the north and south sides of Newport Ave.

Nashville/Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 1
Week of July 29–August 5
- Sidewalks and ADA ramps along Nashville Avenue continue to be poured.
- Irrigation systems for the new right of way green space are installed in preparation for new grass and trees.
- Stormwater planters along the 9th Street roundabout continue to be built
- Crews are prepping subgrade for the new concrete curbs.
Newport Corridor Improvements Scheduled Construction – Segment 5 (Juniper Street to College Way)
Week of August 2– August 5
- Traffic Control devices will be installed, establishing westbound local access only traffic flow.
- The old curbs and sidewalks along the south side of Newport Avenue will be removed.
- Cascade Natural Gas will begin relocating their new gas main.
DETOURS IN EFFECT
Traffic Closures and Changes
- Nashville Avenue from Newport Avenue to Pageant Park is closed.
- Newport Avenue from NW 7th Street to NW 10th Street is closed.
- Intersection at NW Juniper Street and Newport Avenue will be closed.
- Intersection at NW Knoxville Blvd. and Newport Avenue will be closed.
- One-way local access only on Newport Avenue from NW Juniper Street to College Way.

All businesses along Newport Avenue will be open through construction. Business access signs will be placed on the following routes:
- NW Portland Avenue
- NW 14th Street
- NW Newport Avenue
GENERAL PROJECT NOTES
- Access to all area businesses along the construction corridor will be maintained. New ‘business open’ signage continues to be installed.
- Businesses between 9th Street and 11th Street can be accessed using the rear alley and rear parking areas.
- Please do not enter the construction zone before, during, or after hours.
- Daytime work hours are in effect from 7:00 AM–6:30 PM.
- The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
- There are many construction projects in the area and throughout the City of Bend. Travel safely.

- EMS, buses, and other delivery/service providers have been included in the project updates distribution list.
- Please help us in spreading the word to your clients, customers, and delivery personnel regarding detouring and closures.
