Newport Corridor Improvements Project Update – July 16, 2021

SAFETY FIRST

The concrete that is being poured over the next week has a specific cure time to provide an optimal life expectancy. Pedestrians should follow all designated routes around the newly formed curbs and sidewalks. With the hot weather, the exterior of the concrete may appear dry but could still be curing beneath the surface.

With cooler temperatures in the forecast, work hours will return to the original 7:00 AM–5:30 PM beginning Monday, July 19.

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION KIOSK

On Tuesday, July 20, the City’s informational kiosk will return in front of Newport Market from noon to 1:30 PM! Stop by and meet with our team for any questions regarding this project.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Nashville Ave is in its homestretch; new curbs will be formed over the upcoming weeks and asphalt is planned to be laid the end of July through beginning of August. We are excited to announce that Nashville Ave will be fully open for traffic Mid-August 2021.

Over the next week, trees that are designated to be removed due to conflicts with the improvements will be marked with a pink dot on the tree. The ‘Tree Preservation and Removal Overview Exhibits’ can be found on the project website. These exhibits provide design details about each tree being removed and where new trees will be planted.
