City Holding Open House for Two Transportation Projects

The City of Bend invites community members to attend an open house to learn about two City transportation projects, the Hawthorne Connections Study and Midtown Crossings Project.

  • Hawthorne Connections Study seeks to address gaps in the City’s low‑stress network, which will connect to the planned Hawthorne Crossing bike and pedestrian bridge.
  • Midtown Crossings Project is finishing up designs for improvements on Franklin Avenue to improve safety for all travelers.

The in-person open house will take place:

This is a drop-in open house. City staff will be available to answer questions on these and other nearby projects. Online open houses will also be available for both projects on their respective webpages (listed below) and will remain open for public comments from April 7-23:

More about the Hawthorne Connections Study

The Hawthorne Connections Study is exploring new walking and biking improvements along Hawthorne Avenue and Harriman Street. The study aims to address gaps in the City’s low‑stress network, which connects to the planned Hawthorne Crossing bike and pedestrian bridge.

The project team will share street concepts for Hawthorne Avenue between Third and Fifth streets and Harriman Street between Greenwood and Franklin avenues. The team will also be collecting community input to further refine the design concepts. This project does not have funding for full design or construction at this time. The study will help to better understand community needs and position the project for future funding.

More about the Midtown Crossings Project

The Midtown Crossings Project is improving east-west travel between downtown and the Central District and includes improvements to four key connections in the area. This phase of the project is focused on improvements to Franklin Avenue. Improvements to Greenwood Avenue and Second Street have already been completed.

As part of the Franklin Avenue improvements, the project team will share the final design for Franklin Avenue between Harriman Street and Fourth Street and discuss what to expect during construction.
