About Bend Fire & Rescue
Bend Fire & Rescue is the largest fire department east of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and handles all types of emergencies from fires and medical calls to rescues and hazardous situations.
Bend Fire & Rescue is a full-time, paid fire department that proudly serves the people who live in and visit Bend. Thanks to a special partnership with Deschutes Rural Fire Protection District #2, we also help protect community members who live outside the city limits.
Our team is passionate about providing top-quality emergency medical services. We use both Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support ambulances to make sure people get the care they need. Bend Fire & Rescue is honored to have received the American Heart Association’s “Gold” award for our excellent cardiac survival rates—some of the best in the country!
Along with our strong EMS services, we also respond to structure and wildland fires, help prevent fires through education and investigation, and handle technical rescues and hazardous materials. We’re proud to serve our community in so many important ways.

Funding
Bend Fire & Rescue is the only organization that provides important fire and emergency medical services to people in Bend and nearby rural areas. Most of its funding—about 80%—comes from property taxes. This includes a local option levy that voters approved to help pay for fire and medical services.
Local Option Levy
In May 2023, voters chose to support a local option levy for five years. This levy funding will help Bend Fire & Rescue continue offering reliable fire and emergency care through June 2029.

Public Education and Community Engine Requests
Invite Bend Fire & Rescue to Your Community Event! Are you planning a public event and want Bend Fire & Rescue to be part of it? We’d love to join you—if our staff and volunteers are available, we may be able to attend and share helpful safety tips with your guests.
If we can join, we’ll work with you to plan what’s needed. Sometimes we bring our retired fire engine, the “Community Engine,” which helps teach fire prevention and gives a fun look at what we do.
Great fits for the Community Engine include:
- School safety programs
- Camps and clubs
- Community fairs and events
Please note: We don’t attend private parties or commercial events.
Fire Station Tour Requests
Want to visit a fire station? Families, schools, and community groups are welcome to tour and learn about fire safety and equipment. Tours are available monthly and can be scheduled for both small and large groups.
