Franklin Avenue Improvements Project Enters Next Phase Aug. 3

The Franklin Avenue Improvements Project is progressing into its next phase of work. Starting Monday, Aug. 3, travel will be limited to one-way eastbound between NE Second Street and NE Third Street. Westbound traffic will detour on NE Third Street to Greenwood Avenue to NW Wall Street.

Additional work continues between NE First Street and NE Fourth Street, with occasional nighttime flagging. During this phase, work includes replacing aging water pipes, building new stormwater dry-wells, replacing signal wiring and rebuilding the street.

Business access will be maintained throughout construction and emergency response access will be maintained at all times. Businesses on the north side of Franklin can be accessed from NE Greeley Avenue.

The planned schedule for future phases of work:

• September: Work will continue to move west from NE First Street to NW Hill Street in September. This will require full closure of Franklin Avenue, including the railroad undercrossing. Detour routes will include Greenwood, Olney and Colorado avenues.
• Thanksgiving–New Year’s: The railroad undercrossing will reopen temporarily from Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) through New Year’s Day (Jan. 1).
• January 2027: Road work will resume in January with the full closure of Franklin Avenue from NW Harriman Street to NE First Street, including the undercrossing. One side of the undercrossing path will remain open at all times for pedestrians and cyclists.
