Galveston Corridor Safety Project Update

PROJECT CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Raised Crossing at 17th Street

In response to community feedback, the updated design will include a raised
crossing at NW 17th Street instead of the previously considered Flagline
location.

Phased Construction

Construction will be completed in phases to reduce impacts. The City also aims
to align construction with expected private redevelopment activities on
Galveston. Coordinating redevelopment efforts reduces the City’s project costs
and makes the most efficient use of city funds.

Construction Begins Summer 2026

Phase 1 work begins this summer. Improvements include replacing several
driveway and alley approaches. This phase is estimated to be completed by fall
2026.

What to Expect During Phase 1 Construction

• Two-way traffic will be maintained
• Some shoulder work with minor traffic impacts and delays
• Access to all businesses will be maintained
