Daytime Work on Franklin Avenue Begins Monday, June 15

The next phase of the Franklin Avenue Improvements Project will start on Monday, June 15, as crews begin daytime work on Franklin Avenue between First Street and Fourth Street. During this phase, the replacement of aging water pipes continues, and street rebuilding work begins. Crews will focus on one-to-two block sections at a time. Traffic patterns will change frequently
through August.

Two-way travel will remain open through June; however, lane reductions and flagging may be required. Occasional night work will also take place as needed.

Beginning July 6, there will be a westbound closure of Franklin Avenue from Third Street to Fourth Street. This closure will begin after Wilson Avenue railroad work is complete and has re-opened to traffic. The detour route will include NE Eighth Street, Greenwood Avenue, and Third Street. Eastbound traffic will remain open through July 31.

Expect additional changes to traffic patterns through August. Sign up to receive a weekly road report at bendoregon.gov/traffic.

Business access will be maintained throughout construction and emergency response access will be maintained at all times.

The planned schedule for future phases of work:

  • September: Work will move west from First Street to Hill Street * in September. * This will require full closure of Franklin Avenue, including the undercrossing. Detour routes will include Greenwood, Olney and Colorado avenues.
  • Thanksgiving–New Year’s: The undercrossing will reopen temporarily from Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) through New Year’s Day (Jan. 1).
  • January: Road work will resume in January with the full closure of Franklin Avenue from Harriman Street to First Street, including the undercrossing. One side of the undercrossing path will remain open at all times for pedestrians and cyclists.
