Second Street (Franklin to Greenwood)
Community celebration of the new Second Street!
On June 24, the City of Bend community and the Bend Urban Renewal Agency celebrated the completion of the Second Street project, a Core Area Tax Increment Financing project that signals an urban renewal milestone. Redeveloping and invigorating the Core Area will help us achieve the vision of being a place where people can live, work, and play.
Second Street modernization and safety improvements will make travel safer and less stressful for all users with a better-connected bike network and better walking opportunities.

Late Spring 2025
Improvements to Second Street are complete!
Normal traffic operations resumed on Friday, May 30, 2025.

A few remaining items are scheduled for early June, such as planting the landscaped areas, connecting the lights at intersections and adding some final paint. No lane closures will be necessary for these activities.
This project modernized Second Street to meet urban standards (wider sidewalks, street trees, curb extensions) from Franklin Avenue to Greenwood Avenue to make biking, walking, and rolling safer and more convenient.
New street features include:
- 27,377 feet of sidewalk, on both sides of the street to allow safer travel walking, including for those accessing the businesses here
- 49 On-street parallel parking spots with new curbs
- 22 Curb extensions (bulbouts) at intersections for safer, more visible crossings
- “Sharrow markings” in the motor-vehicle lanes, reminding drivers to share the road with bicycles
- Improved street lighting
- 56 trees and 188 other landscape plants
- 5 Business driveways rebuilt or maintained
- 14 storm drains, 10 catch basins, and 8 dry wells built
- 2,502 feet of water lines and 446 feet of storm lines
Funding
This project is funded by the Tax Increment Fund via the Urban Renewal Agency.
